Fianl Refelction

I truly enjoyed the Web 2.0 summer session.  I feel that I have learned about new technology which I can now implement into my classroom. I also enjoyed being able to communicate with my colleagues regarding the technology we were all trying out and get feedback on how my final products turned out.  Furthermore, I feel I benefited greatly from seeing the final products of my colleagues since they had wonderful and creative ideas on how to create and utilize each technology!! I felt that "following" other camper's blogs was the biggest difficulty I had since it was hard for me to navigate into the site and find them.  After I had enough people to follow I felt the process went much smoother.

The product I liked the best was the zooburst.  I feel this will be a great project for my students to use for a college finder/exploring activity which can easily be shared as a presentation to the class.  I have been able to plan a lesson in which I will use the zooburst site for this coming school year! I also really enjoyed making my own you-tube channel.  I think this could be a great way to introduce students to each other in a flipped class.  I am not sure I would use this in my classroom since it is a bit time consuming if you are worried about getting everything "just right" but it is a great technology! I also love the google forms.  I use these for gathering data on the students who are on my caseload.  I find it is faster and easier for teachers to fill out one of these forms and send me their data than it is to gather the data other ways.  I was also surprised at how easy screen-casting was.  I was really nervous that I would not be able to complete this type of activity without help, but it was really easy! I think this could be a great way for me to create lessons for a sub or for a lesson I will use more than once in a day and possibly use each year.

I am so glad I took this course over the summer.  I really feel like it was worth while and informative.  I am glad to take these great new-to-me technologies with me into my classroom.  I hope to implement 2-3 of them this year.

  1. I agree that screencasts would be great for students to you, but it is hard not to want to do your screencast over and over to get it just right.

I also enjoyed getting to see other projects. It was especially helpful to get a feel for the tool before I dove in.

  2. Amanda-
I had the same thought about following other blogs. It's not that was difficult, but just kind of cumbersome to follow others unless you put them in your reading list.

Congrats on finishing! Enjoy the rest of the summer!

  3. I just commented on this same topic. I liked having others to follow, but didn't gain a lot by my commenting or others commenting. The commenting part seemed like and "extra" thing I just needed to get done. However, having access to other blogs was helpful to see what others did, so I had more examples (I'm not as advanced as Mike;)).

  4. Hi, Amanda - thanks for your comments. I thought the same thing about following the blogs of other teachers. Zooburst was an interesting app for me, too, but it also struck me (perhaps because of my field of math) as off-the-wall enough that it might grab students' attention more than a more traditional presentation. It was helpful for me to see other teachers' presentations too.

  5. Hi Amanda, thanks for your feedback. We'll discuss the pros and cons of "commenting" as others felt it was too time-consuming as well-- maybe we'll revamp for next year. I'm so glad you got to create some real products that you plan to use with students next year. Hope to see you at Happy Hour!
